Exchange of information is a requirement of evolution. However, various gatekeepers emerge on its path. Justifying their intrusion into our communications with the ‘interests of national security’, ‘religious sentiments’, ‘copyright’, or ‘user agreement’, they define the level of our understanding of the world. Object of censorship may vary depending on the country, but the presence of censorship is global. Originated under liberal democracy, Facebook prohibits art and nudity as zealously as ISIS. Such data liberators as Manning, Snowden and Assange are being persecuted not by some third-world dictators but Western governments. The declaration of freedom is no guarantee of its availability. Control over information is a control over mind. Today the only form of information capable to bypass censorship is a file. Unlike websites and apps, file doesn't depend on a centralized host or corporate policies. Once file is copied by network of peers, nothing can stop its distribution. Elimination of a source becomes irrelevant. No idea should be forbidden. Culture presupposes a free flow of ideas. By manifesting the file, we manifest our liberation from the gatekeepers. By emancipating information, we emancipate ourselves.
